About Danika Stone

Danika Stone is an author, artist, and educator who discovered a passion for writing fiction while in the throes of her Masters thesis. A self-declared bibliophile, Danika now writes novels for both teens (All the Feels and Internet Famous) adults (Edge of Wild and Intaglio). When not writing, Danika can be found hiking in the Rockies, planning grand adventures, and spending far too much time online. She lives with her husband, three sons, and a houseful of imaginary characters in a windy corner of Alberta, Canada.

Ms. Stone is represented by Morty Mint of Mint Literary Agency.1) When/How did you know you wanted to pursue writing as a career?

I always loved writing, but it didn’t seem like a feasible career until I was writing my master’s thesis and got completely burned out. Writing fiction gave me an emotional outlet and (surprisingly!) not all of it sucked. I started polishing it up and all of a sudden I had a book out of it.

Interview

1) When/How did you know you wanted to pursue writing as a career?

I always loved writing, but it didn’t seem like a feasible career until I was writing my master’s thesis and got completely burned out. Writing fiction gave me an emotional outlet and (surprisingly!) not all of it sucked. I started polishing it up and all of a sudden I had a book out of it.

2) What is the best advice you can give for when writers get stuck or have writer’s block?

Write garbage. Edit later.

3) Where is your favorite place to write?

I write at my kitchen table. It’s the middle of my house, it overlooks the backyard, and my kids can get my attention without difficulty. I love it!

Fun Questions

1)  If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, what would it be?

Ack! This one is difficult because a lot of television shows thrive on drama (and I’m not particularly into the idea of dying.) If forced to choose, I’d go with something like The Ship Beyond Time by Heidi Heilig. I love the idea of being able to time travel! (Second choice would be Star Wars (as long as I never went anywhere near the Death Star.)

2) If you could be any animal, real or mythical, what would you be?

I’d probably be a dragon. It would be epic!

3) What is your go-to comfort food?

I love salad. A LOT. I’m not even kidding. Greens are absolutely awesome!

4) If you could time travel, where would you choose to go?

I’ve always loved the Tudor era, and I’d love to go back and see what it was like. Of course, I’d need a direct-back-to-2017 panic button, because knowing me I’d say the wrong thing and end up accused of being a witch!

5)  What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

I’m not a huge risk-taker by nature. (I hate heights etc.) But I’m pretty bold about talking to people. At many fan conventions, I’ve been the one who has been nominated to go talk to a random celebrity who is in the room. It’s never really phased me. And I’ve met a lot of great people!

Internet Famous

High school senior and internet sensation Madison Nakama seems to have it all: a happy family, good grades, and a massive online following for her pop-culture blog. But when her mother suddenly abandons the family, Madi finds herself struggling to keep up with all of her commitments.

Fandom to the rescue! As her online fans band together to help, an online/offline flirtation sparks with Laurent, a French exchange student. Their internet romance—played out in the comments section of her MadLibs blog—attracts the attention of an internet troll who threatens the separation of Madi’s real and online personas. With her carefully constructed life unraveling, Madi must uncover the hacker’s identity before he can do any more damage, or risk losing the people she loves the most… Laurent included.
